「門」とは制作に関して私が抱いている重要なイメージのひとつである。他者とのコミュニケーションの中心に記号があり、それらが観念を分割することによってこそ人間の知は成り立つものだが、同時にそれは存在を矮小化し、「魚拓のごときもの」に変質させてしまうことでもある。存在とは記号によって分かたれる以前の鮮烈なる渾沌であり、ゆえに他者と共有されることのない、きわめて個人的なひとつの体験だ。
ものごとを捉え、そして他者と共有を図るために存在は意味や情報へと分割され、引き換えに消え失せてゆく。そこにはある種の「門」が聳えていて、意味の以前と以後の世界を、自己と外界とを隔てている。そんなふうに私は世の中を見つめ、そして何もかもがむやみに明示的になってゆく現代において「門」の向こうに横たわる渾沌が忘れ去られ、知の独立性が脅かされていることに恐れと憂いを抱いている。
ものを伝える写真という方法を選びながら、私はそこからあらゆる意味や情報を削ぎ落とそうと努めている。伝えるのではなく言葉のない歌のように寄り添い、感性をくすぐり、肉体に喜びをもたらすものでありたいと願う。

The “gate” is one of the central images in my practice. Signs lie at the core of communication with others, and it is only through their division of concepts that human knowledge becomes possible. At the same time, however, they diminish existence, transforming it into something like a mere imprint. Existence, before it is divided by signs, is a vivid and primordial chaos, and therefore an intensely personal experience - one that can never truly be shared with others.
In order to grasp and to share with others, existence is divided into meaning and information, disappearing in exchange. There stands a certain kind of “gate,” separating the world before meaning from the world after it, the self from the external world. This is how I look upon the world, and I feel both fear and apprehension that, in a contemporary age where everything is rendered needlessly explicit, the chaos that lies beyond the “gate” is being forgotten, and the independence of knowledge is under threat.
Although I have chosen photography as a means of conveying things, I strive to strip it of all meaning and information. Rather than transmitting, I hope for it to stay close to us like a wordless song - something that stirs the senses and brings pleasure to the body.
